First Bethel United Methodist Church
Church Library

Walk in to First Bethel for the first time, and you may be surprised by what you see - a full church library with something for everyone!

The idea of a church library originated with members of the Miriam Circle in the early 1970s. The process began with a collection of 400 books that had been sitting on shelves in the narthex, unattended over the years, and culminated in a grand opening in the fall of 1972.

Today, the library at First Bethel holds a collection of more than 1,700 carefully cataloged books, CDs, and videos.

Alice Barth, our church librarian for 35 years, and now librarian emeritus, modernized the library with a computer system to catalog and search for titles, authors, and subjects. We also have an eleven-member library staff dedicated to selecting the best books and other materials to serve the needs of our congregational community. Our goal is to add at least five new titles each month.

I have always felt that God wanted First Bethel to have a church library. - Alice
