First Bethel United Methodist Church
Fair Trade Coffee

Fair Trade Coffee is a delicious way to reach out to others in a meaningful way! It is an outreach ministry of First Bethel that supports Building New Hope.

Building New Hope, a Pittsburgh based non-profit organization founded in 1992, is selling OCIA (Organic Crop Improvement Association) organic, shade grown, fairly traded coffee to help the El Porvenir ("The Future") cooperative in Nicaragua. The cooperative is a community of families who live in the mountains near Leon. They have been growing coffee for decades and struggle with land security, droughts, hurricanes, poverty, and a coffee glut that has cut deeply into the profits of most Central American farmers.

Your purchase of coffee allows Building New Hope to provide support for: a school for street children, rural reading centers, income-generating opportunities for women, and relief aid after disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes. This enables the farmers to keep their land and look forward to a better future. We can all play a role in affecting the lives of these farmers and their communities. You can make a difference!
