First Bethel United Methodist Church
Communion Stewards

Communion is, along with baptism, one of the sacraments celebrated in the United Methodist Church. It is an act that points beyond itself to God, and is a way that God graciously shares His love with us. It is a simple meal of two elements—the bread representing Jesus’ body and the cup representing his blood. During this meal we thank God, remembering Jesus’ death and resurrection, encountering God’s presence with us now, and looking forward to a future when we will be in perfect communion with God. The meal’s significance is multi-faceted, and is deeply rooted in the worship practices of our ancestors in the faith.

From the earliest centuries Christian servants have participated in the celebration of this meal by providing the elements, preparing them to be shared in worship, and cleaning up afterwards. At First Bethel that tradition continues, as our Communion Stewards join the long line of those who continue to make this holy meal available for everyone to experience.
